| So Janey...
What was your favourite book as a child? The Diary of Adrian Mole – I laughed out loud when reading it.
Where do you read? Usually in bed at night or in the morning on my lounge.
What fictional character would you most like to be? Superman, or in my case Supergirl.
How many books have you written? Two so far (that I have written and illustrated) - one I wrote when I was a child, which was about a primary school camp I went on and the other being my recently published book, ‘The Bubble Orb and Splat the Dragon’.
What inspired you to start writing books? Members of my family inspired me to start writing books, as I have grown up around several relatives that are talented artists and writers. Also, my children have inspired me and helped open up my imagination.
Do you have any advice for any MS Readathon aspiring writers? I think that getting started is the hardest part of writing a book so my advice to them is:
- Write down all of the story ideas and characters etc that pop into your mind as soon as you have them
- Then place those ideas in an ‘ideas folder'
- Once you feel you’ve collected enough, use your ‘ideas folder’ to create a rough story outline.
What would be your ideal Wildlife Adventure? I would love to swim with dolphins, watch gorillas in their natural habitat and then sit and have some playtime with a white lion cub.
What is the best thing about including animals in your stories? I think that most of us like some variety of animal, so I believe they appeal to a lot of people. You can also create weird and wonderful names and personalities for them!
