If you’ve ever thought learning about the Greek Gods sounded a bit boring, Percy Jackson is here to tell you to think again! This story really brings Greek mythology to life, and is pure excitement from start to finish!

This book is the first in a series, where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea. Can Percy find the lightning bolt before a fully-fledged WAR OF THE GODS ERUPTS?

 

Charlie and the Chocolate factory

So read the book, watch the movie… and eat the chocolate!

 

Nims Island

Title: Nim’s Island

A fantastic story about a young girl living out a true wildlife adventure! Nim lives on an island in the middle of the wide blue sea with her father Jack, a marine iguana called Fred, a sea lion called Selkie, a turtle called Chica and a satellite dish for her email. No one else in the world lives quite like Nim, and she wouldn't swap places with anyone. (We asked, and she said no, thanks!)

PS: If you love this book, try out Nim at Sea as well! We hope someone makes that into a movie soon too!

 

Nanny McPhee

The tiny town of Chewandswallow was very much like any other tiny town except for its weather which came three times a day, at breakfast, lunch and dinner. But it never rained rain and it never snowed snow and it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed things like mashed potatoes. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers. Life for the townspeople was delicious until the weather took a turn for the worse. The food got larger and larger and so did the portions. Chewandswallow was plagued by damaging floods and storms of huge food. The town was a mess and the people feared for their lives. Something had to be done, and in a hurry!

 

Horton hears a who!

Surely among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance, all wrapped up, thank goodness, in a comical and even absurd package. Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, and spends much of the book trying to protect the infinitesimal creatures who live on it from the derision and trickery of other animals, who think their elephant friend has gone quite nutty. But worse is in store: an eagle carries away the clover in which Horton has placed the life-bearing speck, and "let that small clover drop somewhere inside / of a great patch of clovers a hundred miles wide!" But Horton eventually convinces everyone that 'A person's a person, no matter how small'!

 

Spiderwick Chronicles

Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events tells the story of the misadventures of the three Baudelaire orphans – 14 year-old Violet (The Inventor), her younger brother Klaus (The Reader), and baby sister, Sunny (The Biter). After the mysterious deaths of their parents in a fire, the three kids are sent to live with their ‘closest relative’, the scary Count Olaf. The story, narrated by Snicket, retells the adventures of the kids in trying to escape the crazy Count and find their places in the world.

 

Inkheart
