A Sign of Affection - Manga Series

This is a relatively new series, with the fourth volume to be published later this year. It is about a young deaf woman and her growing romance with a languages student. The author/artist has challenged herself to communicate the story using elements of sign language in the manga art, a challenge she openly talks about in the afterwords of her works. Yuki, the main character, finds ways to communicate using notes on her phone, texts, and whiteboards. She can also read lips (and the author even manages to illustrate some of the miscommunication errors that can occur with this kind of communication).When she meets Itsuomi, he encourages her to teach him how to use sign language. The story is still young and, no doubt there will be challenges ahead for them, but is a very cute story and I have already preordered the next volume. Show more Show less
